When the Waiting Feels Long

November 10, 2025

2 Peter 3:8–9 — God’s timing reminds us that when the waiting feels long, He is not slow in keeping His promises but patient, working in ways we cannot yet see.

Devotional: When the waiting feels long, faith can grow restless. You pray, you trust, you obey—and yet, it seems like nothing moves. Days turn into months, sometimes years, and the promise you cling to still feels out of reach. That’s where discouragement loves to sneak in, whispering that God has forgotten. But waiting has always been part of discipleship. It’s not a pause in God’s plan—it’s often the place where His work runs deepest.

Peter wrote to believers who were growing weary in the wait for Christ’s return. They had expected His promises to unfold quickly, but time stretched on. Peter reminded them that what looks like delay from our limited view is actually patience from God’s eternal one. “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” God isn’t slow—He’s thorough. He’s patient, shaping hearts, preparing circumstances, and redeeming moments we’d rush through if we could.

The same truth runs through Haggai’s story. God’s people had grown tired after years of half-finished work, wondering if the temple would ever shine again. Yet, through the prophet, God reminded them: “My Spirit remains among you; do not fear.” Whether we’re waiting for an answer, healing, direction, or renewal, the waiting itself becomes holy ground when we trust that God is still at work.

Faith that stands firm in God’s promises doesn’t collapse under time. It breathes through it—anchored in the character of the One who promised. Every delay in our eyes is divine timing in His. What feels like an unanswered prayer may just be a prayer that’s unfolding slowly, layer by layer, under His careful hand.

Action: Resist the urge to rush what God is still preparing. Ask Him what He wants to grow in you while you wait.

Prayer: Lord, when the waiting feels long, teach me to trust that Your timing is perfect. Help me to rest in Your patience instead of wrestling with my own. Give me peace in the pause and confidence in Your promises, knowing that You never forget what You’ve begun. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thought for the Day: God’s timing may test your patience, but it never breaks His promise.
