John 14:27 — Jesus reminds His followers that when peace feels far away, His peace is not like the world’s—it’s a promise rooted in His presence, not our circumstances.
Devotional: When peace feels far away, even the smallest worries can feel like waves crashing too close for comfort. You might hold faith in one hand and anxiety in the other, wondering which will win today. The truth is, even faithful disciples find themselves unsettled sometimes. But when peace feels far away, Jesus reminds us that His peace doesn’t depend on the storm quieting—it depends on who’s in the boat.
The night before His crucifixion, Jesus spoke to His disciples about a peace the world could never give. They didn’t understand yet that the peace He offered wasn’t the absence of conflict but the presence of Himself. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you,” He said. It was a strange kind of comfort in a moment that made no sense. The cross was coming. The world was about to shake. And yet Jesus told them not to be afraid.
That’s the same peace offered to us now. The world’s peace is fragile—it cracks under pressure. But the peace of Christ holds steady through loss, change, and uncertainty. It’s not peace that denies pain; it’s peace that sits beside it and says, “You’re not alone.”
When the people of Judah in Haggai’s time faced opposition, God reminded them that His Spirit remained among them. The same promise echoes through Christ’s words: peace isn’t something we find; it’s Someone who finds us. When peace feels far away, discipleship means standing firm in God’s promises, not in our feelings. The peace of Christ doesn’t wait for the storm to stop—it speaks calm into the middle of it.
Action: When peace feels far away, take a slow breath and say aloud, “Your peace is here, Lord.” Trust His presence even when calm hasn’t come yet.
Prayer: Lord, when peace feels far away, draw me close to You. Quiet my racing thoughts and remind me that Your peace isn’t fragile or fleeting. Help me rest in Your presence even when the world feels uncertain. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thought for the Day: When peace feels far away, remember—Christ hasn’t gone anywhere.
