Paul writes that “we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Devotional: There’s something sacred about a mirror. It shows us who we are, but not always who we want to be. Most mornings, we glance at our reflection—hair a little wild, eyes still sleepy—and adjust what needs fixing. But the mirror Paul describes isn’t about appearance. It’s about transformation.
When Moses met with God, his face shone so brightly that the people couldn’t look at him directly. He had to wear a veil. But Paul says that through Christ, that veil is lifted. We can see God’s glory—not from a distance or through secondhand stories—but up close, face to face. And when we do, something begins to happen within us. The Spirit starts reshaping us, slowly polishing away the dullness caused by sin, fear, and self-focus.
We don’t become holy by sheer willpower. We’re transformed by proximity—by spending time with Jesus. The more we behold Him, the more His likeness starts showing in us. Grace works like sunlight on the soul; it doesn’t demand change, it creates it.
That’s hard to remember in a world that prizes instant results. We like clear progress, measurable growth, and “before-and-after” pictures. But spiritual transformation rarely looks that neat. Sometimes it’s more like fog clearing on a mirror—slow, quiet, and steady. We may not notice it day to day, but others will. They’ll see gentleness where there used to be pride, patience where there used to be frustration, peace where anxiety once ruled.
And when they do, it’s not our brilliance they’re seeing—it’s the reflection of the One we’re looking at.
Every time you turn your heart toward God—in worship, in prayer, in a simple breath whispered heavenward—you’re positioning yourself before the mirror of grace. The Spirit takes that openness and does what only He can do: He changes you from the inside out.
So if you’re feeling far from where you think you should be spiritually, don’t lose heart. Keep looking toward Jesus. The longer you do, the more His reflection will quietly appear in you.
Action: Spend a few minutes today in stillness before God. Picture His light reflecting off your heart like a mirror. Ask the Spirit to polish what’s dull and bring His likeness into clearer view.
Prayer: Lord, You are the light that reveals who I am and who I’m becoming. Thank You for loving me as I am, but not leaving me that way. Keep drawing me closer, until Your reflection becomes visible in the way I speak, act, and love. Let Your grace do the slow, beautiful work of transformation within me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thought for the Day: The more we look at Jesus, the more His likeness shines through us.
