To Know God Better

Acts 17:16-31

In Hamlet, William Shakespeare wrote, “This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

Paul wouldn’t have agreed with this statement. Paul wanted all believers to be true to God above all else.

If I am true to self, I will stay meshed in the way I think. I will continue to think that, like we talked about last week, all the things I do for people or the church make we worthy of God and, in God’s eyes, that’s not true. Nothing I have ever done or will ever do can make me worthy of God. Only His love for me makes me worthy of God.

If, however, I am constantly, with the help of the Holy Spirit, striving toward increasing my knowledge of God and seeking His wisdom, I can’t be false to myself, much less anyone else.
